Beautiful sunflowers
If there is something that epitomizes Danish late summer, it is the sunflower. One cannot help but be captivated by this special flower. It grows so fast that you can almost see it grow from day to day, and some flowers grow up to 4-5 meters high... It's also impressive how big a sunflower head can get. If you look closely, you will discover that each one is a complete work of art and that they are all very different. There are of course a multitude of different varieties, and as they are also at different stages of their flowering, they also look very different, which certainly only makes them all the more charming.
We have used the sunflowers for different bouquets together with seed pods and flowers that we have found on the edge of the ditch. We think they go so beautifully with this flower. You can dry the heads and thus make them last all winter. Leave them in a warm and airy place for a few weeks and then use them to put on dishes or in decorations.
In the garden, you can sow them directly in your perennial bed, but you can also use them around the herb garden next year. If you collect a few and save the seeds, there will be a lot of sunflowers the following year. The flowering period extends from July until the end of October. It goes without saying that sunflowers want lots of sun. Try to notice how they turn as the sun moves throughout the day.
The wreath on the door is tied on a piece of "elephant wire", on which we have tied a lot of ditch edge greens and some oregano in flower from the herb garden. We have also tied some of the smaller sunflower flowers. When you make a wreath, you must first divide the flowers and greenery into smaller "bouquets", which are then tied onto the wreath with steel wire or floral wire. You place the small bouquets "layer on layer", and thus the wreath is created. The greenery and herbs in a wreath like this can last a long time, but unfortunately the sunflowers will quickly wither. Peel off the yellow leaves, or enjoy the flower while it is fresh.
