Rustic burlap lanterns

These rustic lanterns are very easy to make and give off a cozy glow in the dark. They will decorate nicely for a summer party, for cozying up in the orangery, but will also be nice for Christmas.

You will need:
Brown coarse sacking canvas, can be purchased at most fabric stores.
Wood glue.
White matte paint, here lime paint has been used.
Clamps to hold them together while they dry.
Empty can or glass for “shape”
Scissors, paintbrush, a pointed awl or other pointed object to pull out threads with.

Start by cutting out a piece of canvas that fits the size of the can or jar. There should be about a centimeter of overlap that you will need to glue the lantern together.

Now you cut random holes and pull random threads out of the canvas to give the lights different expressions. The more holes and cracks in the canvas, the more light will come out.

Now apply wood glue to the canvas and roll it around the can. Apply some glue to the outside as well.

Now you take the canvas out of the can and set it to dry, with a clamp on to hold it together.

Finally, don't leave the canvas on the can while it dries, because then you won't be able to get it off.

When the lamp is dry, you can glue the lamp together additionally in the assembly if it is not firmly attached.

Now paint the lantern with the white paint, just do this a little sloppily so it looks extra rustic.

Place a small tealight glass inside the lantern and it is now ready to decorate and cast a beautiful light glow.

You can make the lamps in different sizes depending on what you want.
