Magnet and chalkboard
By Jayne Daimo
This is what I have used:
Cheap metal sign that I bought for 15 kr.
Stencil spray (Cadence)
Stencil with harlequin check (Cadence)
Chalk board paint in gray & gray blue (Cadence)
A mushroom to dab the paint on with.
A brush to paint the first layer on
Sand block/sandpaper
Liquid wax espresso (cadence)
A small stencil with coffee stains (Tim Holtz)
Accessories for the board:
Wine tie string (for handle)
Magnets
Capsules
Lim
This is how I did it:
First I painted with gray paint, to have it as a base paint, and to cover the text. The paint covers in just one coat. When the paint was dry, I prepared it for stenciling. I spray my stencil with stencil spray, (so that it sits very close to the motif), and press it firmly. Alternatively, you can use masking tape.
Then I dab the blue paint on. I was careful not to get too much paint on the sponge! I have a piece of cardboard that I dab the excess on first. Better to give it a couple of more coats than have it seep under the stencil. I carefully pull the stencil off before the paint dries.
When all the paint is dry, I start with my vintage look. Here I take liquid wax on a sponge, dab the edges, make spots through the stencil, and a little shading here and there. I found some magnets that were round and flat, and that fit the size behind a beer cap.
The capsule was flattened, a motif was glued on, and I also glued the magnet to the capsule. There are so many ways to make magnets.
