Wire mesh basket

Idea and execution by Janne Toftegaard Anno1808.dk

This basket is made of netting and fence wire. You can make it in exactly the size you want and it can be made both with and without a handle. I have chosen to paint this with brown lime paint, but it can also be painted or sprayed white.

You will need:
Checkered net.
Fence wire for the handle and edge (net and fence can be purchased at the local hardware store)
Unglazed floral wire on a roll, the dark one.
Fold the edge up.
Decorate your basket, eggs, etc.
Brown lime paint.
Nippers.
Brush.

Start by cutting a rectangle out of the net. Mine is about 31 squares long and 23 squares wide. Cut four corners out of the piece. Here I have cut 5 squares out of each corner, so that the height of the basket is 5 squares. Bend the sides up using the board, so that it is mostly straight. Sew each corner together with the thin steel wire. Put a border around the basket of fence wire to stabilize it. Start in one corner with the end and bend the fence wire around the corners as you "tie" it in place. Make two handles from the fence wire, and attach them with a little distance. I have attached them to the basket with three squares of the net in between. The handles are attached by making a U bend at the end of the fence wire and twisting it together. The two handles are twisted together at the top with a piece of fence wire, so that a handle is formed. Now you can paint your basket, with chalk paint or spray paint it. Decorate your basket with eggs, hay or whatever you like.

Enjoy!
Janne.
