Office on a budget
Create the finest cozy corner, home office or a corner in the living room for creative projects - for almost no money. Think creatively, buy used things and use lots of recycled materials. Also in new ways. Old floorboards, a pile of old apple boxes, a few nice chairs, paint and fine finds from flea markets and thrift stores can be transformed into the coziest home office or craft corner.
The desk top is made from old floorboards, and a couple of old table legs as supports. To attach the tabletop to the wall, angle brackets from a hardware store were used. The small chest of drawers was painted, then sanded and finally a little black antique wax to get a nice vintage look. Old apothecary bottles have been upcycled, and now work as a lamp, by cutting off the bottom and putting a socket up through the bottle necks.
A large world map is hung as a wall decoration, and the other things with which the corner is decorated are all old and come from various flea markets and thrift stores. You can use old cans as pots. If they are a little leaky, you can put a jam jar in as a kind of "inset".
Apple boxes have been made into a large bookcase for books, decorations and storage. The boxes are simply screwed together with ordinary screws, and then the shelf is attached to the wall behind it to stabilize it. If you want a cleaner look, and not so rustic, you can sand and paint the boxes in the same color as the wall. The bookcase can be used in virtually any kind of room. An old chair is transformed with a bit of paint, and a soft leather covers for any cracks and stains on the seat. So easily you can create a cozy corner that invites you to relax. Nothing more is needed.
