Homemade ice cream truck

By Tine Gudiksen - Millevanille Vintage.

The vintage ice cream cart is inspired by the old sales carts. Our daughter wanted my homemade ice cream for her confirmation, so it was of course obvious to build an ice cream cart for the purpose. I presented the idea to my little brother Rune and he was on board with the idea. I love when we as siblings do something together, the mood is always great and we have fun. We are both creative after our father.

The cart itself took about 1,5 hours to build.

For the cart you will need:
Building boards
Laths
An old tabletop (used for the top plate and roof)
Screws
Screwdriver
Saw (preferably circular saw)
Folding rule
Self-watering box
Wheels (old ones, e.g. from a sun stroller, pushchair, pram or similar)
Handle Paint
Small moldings or an old frame.
Various decorations, e.g. pennants, light chain, old ice cream sign, etc.

The cart is built around a flamingo self-watering box. The flamingo box can be filled with ice cubes in the bottom and then keep the ice cold at the same time, and you can also fill it with cold drinks.

The wagon body itself is made of boards, battens and angle brackets from the construction market.

We started by making a square “box” out of the battens. We also added a batten all the way around about in the middle, so that it was stable and then we could easily screw the side and bottom boards on. On the middle batten along the length, we also added a couple of battens that the flamingo box could stand on. The top board was cut to fit the opening of the watering can and 4 battens were used to hold the roof on the cart. Cart wheels with the old wheel bearings were screwed on under the cart also on a batten. The support leg was also screwed on under the box.

The white handles and wheels are from an old discarded sun stroller, and the support leg is an old furniture leg. You can easily use, for example, wheels from an old stroller and make a pair of nice handles yourself. And the support leg can just be a piece of batten.

The wagon body is then painted with chalk paint and the letters are hand-painted. I framed the text with a few moldings I had lying around. Finally, the wagon was decorated with pennants, an ice cream cone holder I had found in the same color, and a nice little string of lights that provided light for the party in the evening.
