Recycling with shutters

Shutters from old houses are one of the things we love to use in interior design. They are so applicable everywhere. As a background for installations, as a headboard or simply standing against a wall. However, they can also be used for more practical purposes. Here we show you how to use them as cupboard doors. In the pictures above, it was a cavity under a staircase that we wanted to camouflage. Here Lars made a folding door from two smaller shutters joined together with hinges, and a drawer handle was attached as a handle. We were lucky to find two shutters that just fit the measurements. Below you see another idea. In our home there were several places these modern cupboard walls, with laminated doors. They are really practical, but in my opinion not as charming. Therefore, we replaced the doors themselves with a pair of shutters, which happened to almost fit the measurements. We reused the rails, and removed the wheel and put it on the shutters instead. It gives a completely different look when you enter the entrance hall. We found the trunk, which is used as an alternative coat rack and decoration, out in the meadow and debarked.

In the last picture, it is a home-made cabinet, with a door from a shutter, which we have made in Møllehuset here at Kærby Mølle - to cover the electricity meter and the sales technique. There was also a little extra storage space.
