Oblong decorative box with lights for the Easter table

The light of spring and the beautiful symbols of Easter inspire us to create simple, natural decorations that bring coziness into the home. This beautiful, oblong box with decorations is both rustic and elegant, and it is perfect as a centerpiece on the Easter table or as a cozy decoration on the windowsill, filled with spring flowers, eggs, candles and small details.

You will need:
Ordinary boards from the hardware store, 4 pieces were used here.
Wood glue
Wood nail
Green plastic candle holders, 9 used here – available in hobby shops or florists
Screws
Paint – lime paint was used here
Possibly wood stain
Various tools – saw, hammer, screwdriver, screw clamp, paintbrush, sandpaper, etc.

For decoration use:
Candles preferably at several heights
A little hay for the bottom
Flowers of your choice. – Daffodils, tulips, narcissus, eucalyptus, etc. are used here.
Deflated eggs
Small plaster hens
Various small glass vases

Here's how you do it:
Saw 3 boards to the desired length. This box is quite long, 155 cm, as I thought it would look nice on the table. You can make the box to the exact size you want. Now glue the two boards that will form the bottom together with wood glue, and clamp them in a vice. Saw the tip of your plastic candle holders, here I have used a small Japanese handsaw.

Now glue and screw the candle holders onto the two boards that are glued together, which will form the bottom of the box. Split the remaining board down the middle, so you have two pieces of wood that you use for the edge of the box. This box has a height of approx. 7 cm. Glue the two pieces of edge wood onto the bottom with wood glue and nail them to the edge.

Now you measure how wide your box has become, this one measures 24 cm, and saw a piece of wood that will form the ends. You also split this piece of wood, like the long edges, and glue and nail them in place.

Now you have a finished box, which you can now start painting and patinating to your own liking. Here I have stained the wood with a brown wood stain first and then painted the box with white lime paint. Finally, the box has been sanded so that it appears rustic. I have then decorated the box with hay in the bottom, candles and small vases with various spring flowers. The box can be used all year round and decorated according to the occasion and season.

Enjoy, from Janne.

Fill the box with fresh flowers in delicate, green shades and eggs in muted tones. The candles create an extra cozy atmosphere, but you can also put in a string of lights.

The simple wooden box is a timeless idea and can be used again and again with slight variations, depending on the season. Create a spring box with Easter flowers and eggs, add fresh herbs in the summer, and fill it with fir and pine cones for Christmas.
