A lake in the garden

Brian and Betina love working in the garden and are always working on new, exciting projects. They have always dreamed of having their own little lake in the garden, and when the opportunity presented itself last year, they started the extensive work. First they had to familiarize themselves with how it should be made, so that it was done according to all regulations. Betina says that it was good that they didn't know in advance what a big job it would be. They made it all manually themselves and also dug out the 130 cm deep lake, which holds 700 liters of water! They also made paths and terraces and planted plants.

Now that the project is finished, they are very happy about it. They enjoy the lake every day and love to sit and listen to the trickling little stream they have made or look at the fish in the pool. Of course, it is also possible to sit on the bridge and dip your toes on a hot summer day.

The best advice for those of you who want to build a lake yourself is to familiarize yourself thoroughly with things before you start. Find out what it is you want: Is it a swimming lake, a basin with straight edges and clean lines or, as here, a lake with natural stones and a small, trickling stream. The possibilities are really many.
