Spring is on the way…
Current garden trends: Beautiful, wild gardens and biodiversity in focus
Spring is in full swing and many of us are itching to get started with the planting. There has been a growing interest in gardens that are not only beautiful but also contribute positively to nature and biodiversity. As more people become aware of the importance of supporting pollinators such as bees, butterflies and other insects, we are seeing a clear trend towards more natural and wild gardens. We are lucky that our photographer here at Jeanne d'Arc Living is very passionate about flowers and has recently opened her own small seed shop.
Special seeds for wild bouquets and biodiversity
Many gardeners today are choosing to sow seeds that not only add color and beauty to the garden, but also provide nectar and habitat for insects. Here are some of the most popular types of seeds that are trending right now, which also look amazing in bouquets:
???? Wild carrot (Daucus carota) – This elegant umbel plant with white, lacy flowers adds a natural and romantic look to both the garden and bouquets.
???? Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) – A robust and drought-tolerant plant that works well in the garden and as a dried flower in bouquets. Available in a variety of shades from white to deep red.
???? Proudly Cavalier (Cosmos) – Light, airy flowers in pink, white and burgundy tones that create a wild and romantic atmosphere in both beds and bouquets.
The natural garden – a trend with meaning
More and more people are letting their gardens be a little more wild to support the balance of nature. This means less use of pesticides, more homegrown seeds and greater variety in plant choices. At the same time, it is popular to create small areas in the garden with wild flowers, where nature is allowed to rule. The best thing about this trend is that it both benefits biodiversity and gives a fabulous, natural expression to the garden and the bouquets we collect. A wild bouquet is not only beautiful – it also tells a story about the nature we want to preserve.
????Tine's tips for pre-germination:
When you are going to pre-germinate your seeds, start by soaking them in lukewarm water overnight to soften them. The next day, sow the seeds in small pots or pre-germination trays filled with nutrient-rich soil. If you make your own pots out of newspaper for the seeds, you are both good for the environment and you can simply put the entire pot in the ground when it is time to plant them. Place the pots in a bright place, such as a sunny windowsill, and keep the soil slightly moist. After a few weeks, they will start to sprout. When the danger of frost is over, you can plant them out in the garden, or in pots on the patio, where you will enjoy them all summer. It is a simple process, and quite easy for anyone, even if you are not an experienced garden enthusiast.
