Amazing Sanctuary - From Personal Journey to Concept for Others
At the tip of beautiful Djursland lies Louise and Niels' farm – a place that encompasses family, work and a life journey filled with speed, changes and dreams. Here, in the middle of the fields, Louise – architect, designer and enthusiast – has created the concept she today calls Amazing Sanctuary.
But the story begins somewhere else. In a life of high tempo and many projects. Louise and Niels have been married since 1993 and have raised four children together. Most have moved away from home, but the family's youngest son, Emil, still lives nearby and participates in the smooth generational change on the farm, which the family has run for six generations.
In 2004, Louise and Niels built a new farm in the middle of the countryside. It became their home, workplace and focal point for a life filled with entrepreneurial spirit, big ideas and many tasks. But when Niels had a serious accident at work a few years ago, the pace slowed down. It was a turning point – a necessary pause where life and everyday life were rethought. It was here that the seeds for a new chapter were sown.
Louise began to dream of a sanctuary – not far away, not in a summer house that required planning and maintenance – but right where they already lived and lived. A place where they could breathe freely, find peace and be together. Without mobile phones, deadlines or demands. Just be.
The dream grew slowly. Louise sketched, imagined and drew her way through over 100 versions before she hit on the right combination of aesthetics, function and feeling. A sanctuary where nature and presence merge. A place for both everyday life and the great outdoors. With a swim spa, an orangery, an outdoor kitchen and space for guests and laughter. Most of the materials were recycled, leftovers and finds – created with care and respect for what was already there. Even white roses from the old terrace were carefully moved and replanted. And although it is all well underway, it is far from finished. A creative garden house, a pergola, a greenhouse and a fire pit are sprouting. The project is allowed to grow at its own pace, just like life itself.
Louise's own experiences and visions eventually became a concept that now inspires many others. Amazing Sanctuary has become a universe – a showroom, a design studio, a life project. It’s not just about building beautiful settings, but about creating peace, presence and everyday happiness where you already are. She meets people who are looking for the same thing: a break, a breather, a place to find home within themselves. And she helps them see the possibilities in their own surroundings. It starts with a conversation – and often with the question: “What makes you relax?” From there, she creates settings where inside and out merge, and where function and aesthetics go hand in hand.
The name Amazing Sanctuary is no coincidence. It is a loving tribute to the book that Louise has drawn inspiration from for many years – a book with the same themen made by Jeanne d'Arc Living, and who has been a constant companion on her creative journey. Therefore, it was also natural for her that this particular name became the focal point for her own concept. Louise's approach is personal, down-to-earth and deeply rooted in the desire to make a difference. She doesn't just create spaces - she creates living spaces. And she does it with her heart. For her, design is not just about furniture and colors, but about new ways of living. More peace. More togetherness. More beauty in the immediate surroundings.
