A white home full of heart space
Lene and her husband Jørgen live in beautiful natural surroundings at the old school in Rudbøl in Denmark - very close to the harsh marshland and the Danish/German border. The school was built in 1923. It was pure coincidence that the couple saw the school and fell in love with the place, which was then very dilapidated. They could see the possibilities in the beautiful place, and it was the palatial style and the tall windows that they particularly liked. There are four meter high ceilings in the room and thus lots of light, as well as direct access to the garden via a French door. The place was originally intended as a holiday home, but they quickly became so happy with it that they moved in full time and sold their second house. The charm of the house, the harsh nature and the wind across the marsh had touched their hearts to that extent.
They have been renovating for a long time, and will probably never finish, because it has become a lifestyle that they love. They did it all themselves, except for changing the roof. Lene has converted the old classroom and the original entrance into a cozy shop, where she sells Swedish, French and Danish antiques to people who happen to pass by or find her via the internet. The interest in restoring old things and going to markets has always been there. See Lene's shop and much of what she sells on Instagram here.
The style in the house is a wonderful mix of French country style and Swedish Gustavian style, which fits well with the house's almost majestic rooms with the large windows and very high ceilings. There is light and deliciousness everywhere. Everything is painted white, including most of the furniture, which is mainly old. Lene combines them with lots of antique, French stands and chandeliers, beautiful old baskets and boxes as well as lots of beautiful textiles in muted colours. It provides a nice calm, a common thread and a really cozy atmosphere in the whole home.
Come along around the rest of this beautiful home and get inspiration for how you can decorate with the white and light color palette. There is a warm and white welcome in the entrance, white wellness on the bathroom, room for community in it white kitchen, peace to dream in bedroom and time for creative moments upstairs under the ceiling.
