Autumn festival
Autumn's golden and brownish colors are super nice. withered leaves, bare branches, seed pods and chestnuts... There are so many beautiful things in nature that almost cry out to be taken in and used for wreaths, bouquets and other decorations. So if you are going to have a party in autumn, there is good reason to take a walk in the forest, and generally out in nature and collect. We bought flowers from the florist, and kale and lots of decorative pumpkins were bought from a good country store nearby. it's high season for these things right now, and they're also incredibly decorative. The party was held in an ordinary garage.
The beautiful autumn decorations are made in one large and two small terrines. We have used the following flowers: Pink dahlias, pink and white roses, pink starshade, snow berries, wax flowers and St. John's wort. You can also use other flowers. See what you have in the garden and supplement with what you can find at your local florist. Start by saturating the oasis. You must fill the terrines so much that the oasis rises 1½-2 cm above the edge, so you have the option of sticking flowers and greens in from the side. Start by filling greens and some flowers all the way around the edge of the terrine. Some of the green should be a little long. Now place all the dahlias and the large roses so that you get a nice shape on the decoration. Fill with the rest of the flowers and some greenery. You can easily make the decorations the day before the party.
The long table is covered with a light linen cloth at the bottom and paper runners across the table. they are large sheets of handmade paper used as runners. We chose a brownish color that matches the golden autumn colors very well. in the middle of the table we made a border of elm branches with racquets and cones, chestnuts with lots of pumpkins in between. White porcelain, heavy, old glasses and silver cutlery match the rustic table in the most beautiful way. a dried oak leaf tied around the cutlery with a piece of strong jute string on each place setting. lots of candles in small glasses create the right atmosphere.
Lots of old bottles with or without a curve around them were turned into candle holders. We helped the candle along a bit by dripping some candles beforehand so they looked well used. a task the children of the house thought was great fun. Some of the bottles were also used for vases with snow berries. old apple crates, beer crates and other storage boxes were used as small tables and shelves in the garage. In this we placed several bottles and old wooden dishes with lots of decorative pumpkins. a wicker chair is ready if one of the guests needs a little rest. Antlers and studs emphasize the rustic autumn atmosphere.
To create a bit of atmosphere in the room and screen off garden tools and bicycles, we made a "bookcase" from apple boxes and hung some large posters on the beams. We filled the "shelf" with lots of bottles and pumpkins. On one of the walls we hung this old fruit collector's box. It also doubles as a decorative shelf for a few bottles and a few pumpkins. It doesn't take much to create an atmosphere.
Outside we made small setups. rusty, old pots were filled with kale and wooden dishes with plenty of pumpkins. Antlers are great to mix in. Elsewhere, it's just piles of pumpkins that decorate. We have exclusively used the small pumpkins in yellow, white and green colours. We have chosen them to let the green color be consistent. The large, more common orange pumpkins will also go beautifully with the withered leaves, and you can also make beautiful lamps out of them.
