Antique Christmas decorations with soul and charm
Dorthe and Tom live in Slagelse, and if there's one thing they love, it's Christmas. Dorthe calls them a "real Christmas family", and they start decorating from mid-November. However, Dorthe decided many years ago that she doesn't want to stress about Christmas decorations and homemade baking. If she has the time and the desire, she gets started, but otherwise she buys what she needs. The decorations are constantly getting bigger and bigger as Christmas approaches.
Dorthe collects old, antique Christmas decorations. She is mostly into the bright colors, but for many years – while the children were small – they decorated in Disney style for the children’s sake – and they loved it! As the children got older, the colors disappeared, because Dorthe herself prefers to decorate with white, silver and green. And lots of lights. Dorthe is especially a big collector of antique tinsel decorations, cotton decorations and, not least, antique Christmas cards. She loves to think about who once received that particular card. The home is furnished exclusively with recycled furniture and a few brocante finds, and much of it is in the romantic style. All the furniture was bought second-hand at markets, in flea markets, online or at dba. They got some for free because people just wanted to get rid of it.
When the children were little, decorations were made in strips and baked for the big gold medal in the run-up to Christmas. Dorthe is not a baking girl, but she enjoyed it when the children were little. On the other hand, she loves to relax by being creative with cut/paste activities, so instead of standing in the kitchen, she goes to the basement, where she has a lovely creative room with lots of fun things. She constantly finds new inspiration and ideas to try out. During the Christmas days themselves, the focus is on family and togetherness.
