There is something special about the bright, quiet moments of spring – and even more so when they are enjoyed around a table set with warmth, soul and personality. Here we have created a simple and rustic version of the French country kitchen – a table setting where cozy togetherness is the main focus. We have made a table from a rustic, old door placed over a couple of old painter's easels and added a couple of benches. The benches are filled with soft leather and cushions, which invite you to stay a little longer. The informal and relaxed expression creates an atmosphere where there is room for presence and good conversations.
The table setting is both simple and charming: The service consists entirely of different, old plates, and the same applies to glasses, cutlery and napkins. There are no strict rules or perfect matches – and that is precisely what gives the table life and character. The fact that things are not the same, but each one carries its own story, adds a very special warmth and personality to the table setting. In the middle of the table we have filled an old wooden dish with moss and lots of bulbous plants. In order not to damage the dish, we have placed plastic at the bottom under the moss. The bulbous plants have their own "water supply" in the form of the bulb, and therefore they do not need additional water.
An old tin of sprouted hyacinths is quick and easy to arrange. Always use things that can either be taken from nature or that are in season, so they can be bought cheaply from the florist. Then you can easily make a beautiful table setting for no money. It also gives the feeling that nature has been invited in – and it creates the authentic atmosphere that characterizes French country style.
The table is not perfect, but it is alive. Here it is not about the polished, but about the real. A table set with heart and hand – for the joy of those who sit around it.
